Fiber Arts

My love affair with color and texture combine with my " de-stressing " crochet habit to create wearable art inspired by the rich hues and tactile surfaces all around me.

The current scarf collection features coordinating pins made of low fired clay and fine silver. Each scarf begins as a hank of uncolored yarn which is either wound into a ball or a skein. From there I will crochet some scarves in the uncolored yarns. The skeins are ready for coloring.

All yarn and scarves are washed and then soaked to open up the fibers to accept the dyes. I choose to paint every skein and scarf by hand rather than vat dyeing. The joy of color for me is in the blending, seeing light and shadow develop from how the dyes move on the fiber. All of my work is steam set and thoroughly rinsed to insure color fastness.

After my pieces are colored; I begin making the pins using fine silver and low fired clay. The color technique employs the same dyes as the yarn so the match is exact. Each pin requires at least three firings and a jeweler's eye to insure a fine finish on the pieces.

Please click on the images below to see the styles and materials available this season. We have rendered our colors as carefully as possible but as computer monitors view color quite differently; if you would like, we can send you a current color card for $5. If you have a special request or commission, please email me.
